1903 Knox
The Knox truck is the oldest truck
in the museum and the only one with a single cylinder engine.
The air-cooled engine is mounted under the load floor with the
cylinder head facing forward. These
engines were nicknamed "Old Porcupines" because of the
fins screwed into the cylinder jacket. The maker claimed
the fins provided a much greater cooling surface than conventional
fins.
Knox was one of the very earliest
truck makers, and despite a reputation for quality products, went
out of business in the mid-1920's.
